My Sad Captains - Fight Less Win More

CD comes with MP3's upon purchase.

Ed Wallis, singer and songwriter for My Sad Captains, wrote much of the material for Fight Less, Win More alone in a borrowed house in San Francisco. Returning to England, the band – Jim Wallis (drums, keyboards, vocals), Nick Goss (guitar, sonics) and Dan Davis (bass) – decamped to the Cornish countryside to record the album in a barn where the natural acoustics combined with the band’s collective input brought the record to life.

They then sent the album tracks to Portland to be mixed by Larry Crane (editor of Tape Op magazine) known for his work for artists such as Cat Power, Sleater-Kinney, The Go-Betweens, Elliott Smith, M. Ward and Stephen Malkmus amongst many others.

Reviews

‘Fight Less…’ is a joyous ride through the blessed strain of indie ploughed by US contemporaries like Grandaddy and Atlas Sound while still sounding like a product of home. Cherish this one.- 8/10 Olly Parker, Loud And Quiet

‘Orienteers’, the opening song on ‘Fight Less Win More’, contains the unsettling lines, “I will reserve the right/To decompose in front of your eyes”. But peel away the lachrymose lyrics and you get a warm, dewy guitar part and a crumpet-soft bass plod – the motherly arms that go on to cradle the rest of the album. - 4 Stars, The Fly

Equally lonesome and warming their second album grooves along on subtly motorik grooves and acoustic guitars; think of a more costal Sparklehorse ('Little Joanne') or a less sinister Mercury Rev ('Duck and Cover') and add a wooly jumper to get the idea. - 4 Stars, Artrocker

There are very few albums that manage to match the dynamic range of this one without having to rely on over-the-top instrumentation and expansive production, but My Sad Captains have seemingly pulled it off with ease... People always say that it’s the quiet ones you need to watch out for – and Fight Less, Win More proves that this really is the case.- The Line Of Best Fit

My Sad Captains appeared to have toughened up of late. The band's songwriting has taken on a new depth, with sessions resulting in an ambitious second album.- Clash

Fight Less Win More is a rare album in today's musical landscape.- Music OMH

I’ll never get enough of hanging round with you is just a really sweet chorus. -Fader

My Sad Captains may sound more like happy landlubbers with an ear for crafting tunes, but if you just sit back and enjoy you will, as the title states, ultimately be the winner. -8/10 Fake DIY
